ToolFinder – Did you Know AI can Identify Things which are Missing?

Artificial intelligence is good at recognising objects – but what if you want AI to recognise the absence of an object?

The secret of course is checking for the presence of an object, then indicating to the user if that object is not present.

ToolFinder demonstrates this skill with a pipeline of embedded mobile artificial intelligence feats.

  1. ToolFinder determines whether it is looking at a simulated tool tray. If not, ToolFinder indicates that no tool tray is present.
  2. ToolFinder indicates which tools are missing from the tool tray.

The following is a demo of ToolFinder detecting the presence or absence of tools in real time.

If you look closely at the video above you will notice what you are seeing is actually the iPhone version of ToolFinder. Unfortunately Apple are taking a hard line these days on releasing demonstration apps to App Store.

The following is from the Apple app store rejection notice;

Obviously this will be addressed if I develop ToolFinder further, from being a demonstration app into being a tool utility app.

What do you think? Should I take ToolFinder further?
